Elizabeth Harding Weinstein

July 6th, 2025 - Briarcliff Manor, NY
Age 53

Elizabeth Weinstein was found dead in a Danbury, CT hotel room. Lizzie was a healthy and fit 53 year old woman and a cause of death is still pending.

Lizzie was tortured through a long, strenuous legal battle with her former husband, a high powered lawyer in NYC. He extracted Lizzie from their three children’s lives, exposing her to years of emotional and psychological suffering. Her children were her world.

As most women do, she turned to the courts to help protect her. But the courts were not on Lizzie’s side as she navigated the complexities of her case desperately attempting to regain any custody of her children, which never happened. It appears that her ex-husband used the courts to permanently alienate Lizzie from her children. She was labelled as mentally ill, placed into guardianship so that she had no access to marital or personal funds, and then falsely arrested for breaking an order of protection (when peacefully leaving an ‘I love you’ note' on her son’s car), and then held in jail for weeks followed by being involuntarily committed to a psychiatric facility in Rockland County, NY. She was eventually released after the #freelizzie campaign went viral.

Whether or not Lizzie’s abuse accusations against her family were valid, we will never know. But one thing we do know, is that when abuse is covered up in a family, it will continue down, generation after generation, within that family line until one brave family member finds the courage to speak up and speak loud, saying “Not on my watch.” Unless others in that family find that same level of courage to join them and speak up too, then the person who spoke up will be ostracized, smeared and cast out. Families with dark secrets believe that the family secret will die with each perpetrator and each victim. But they don’t. They continue through transgenerational trauma until it’s brought to light, acknowledged and then the healing work can begin to save future generations.

Lizzie will be remembered as a caring nurse, an advocate, a loyal friend, but most importantly, a dedicated and loving mother.  Even though she was banned from her children’s lives, she never stopped loving them and trying to find a way to connect with them. She was fearless. For anyone who knew her, we can attest that she was a force to be reckoned with.

There are many questions as to how Lizzie died and if any foul play was involved. An investigation into Elizabeth’s death is ongoing and we pray that answers are given in due course.

We’ll miss you Lizzie.
