Petition to Mandate 6-Month Time Limit on Child Custody Determinations

SIGN OUR PETITION!

We need legislation that enforces a common sense, reasonable time limit on child custody determinations.

We are calling for legislation to mandate and enforce that judges deliver child custody and visitation determinations within six months of the preliminary conference in any contested child custody case. If the case includes an allegation of abuse or safety concern, those cases must take a different track.

This will not only reduce the financial impact of litigation, but will also minimize the emotional trauma experienced by families and children trapped in these courts and ease congestion in the courts, allowing more time for the cases involving abuse.
